Focused on employee engagement, the M5 People Team, led by Chief Learning Officer Heather Bennett, will use fun and creative ways to foster a work culture that supports its staff to help them meet their personal and professional goals.
Ms. Bennett and the M5 People Team will shake up the entire corporate structure to place their focus squarely on attracting top talent to the firm and creating a culture of outstanding customer service. They will do this by making sure the company’s commitment to customer service is turned inwards to ensure employees feel nurtured.
“It’s not easy for a smaller firm to compete with the employee perks offered by goliaths and competitors like Google and Microsoft,” says Chief Learning Officer Heather Bennett. Instead, M5’s goal is to attract the best talent by striving to be the best learning company in the U.S. M5 is challenging business learning standards by offering internal training that will accelerate employee career paths. M5 will do this by building on existing enrichment programs like the M5 Rock program, where employees form rock bands, take music lessons and compete in a yearly Battle of the Bands.
Other state of the art learning programs being introduced with the People Team this year include a Candidate Concierge to provide services to people applying for positions at M5, allowing the HR team to improve response time to employee inquiries. The company will also implement a digital suggestion box, called M5 Ideas, to systematically collect, process and reward innovative staff ideas.

Another initiative recently implemented by M5 includes an employee Jiujitsu program run in partnership with MMA Champion Marcelo Garcia and International Chess Champion Josh Waitzkin, who recently wrote “The Art of Learning.” Waitzkin, who was the subject of the popular film, “Searching for Bobby Fisher,” works with M5ers on practicing learning techniques while they perfect their jiujitsu moves.
