“The energy audit is a powerful tool, and the field of home performance holds lots of promise for both our built and natural environment,” said Sam Hagerman, President of Portland contractor Hammer & Hand.

With demand for home energy audits and retrofits in Portland increasing at a brisk clip, remodeler and green builder Hammer & Hand’s home performance team has tripled in size. To accommodate this expansion – driven by Clean Energy Works Oregon’s efforts at market transformation – Hammer & Hand is opening a new home performance office in Suite 107 of Southeast Portland’s Ford Building (2505 Southeast 11th Ave., Portland, OR 97202.)

“2011 was a huge year for home energy audits and home performance retrofits in Portland, thanks in large part to the Clean Energy Works Oregon public-private partnership,” said Sam Hagerman, President of Hammer & hand. “And in 2012 we anticipate a doubling of demand over last year.”

The field of home performance, with its win-win-win proposition of home improvement, energy bill reduction, and environmental preservation, is a burgeoning national movement. Oregon leads the nation with its groundbreaking Clean Energy Works Oregon program that packages generous rebates and low interest financing to make energy audits and retrofits easy and affordable for homeowners.

As a leading Portland remodeler and green building contractor, Hammer & Hand quickly established itself as a top Clean Energy Works Oregon contractor and became a central player in the Portland scene last year. The surge of demand took Hammer & Hand by surprise.

“There’s obviously lots of pent up demand out there for well-executed home energy efficiency work,” said Hammer & Hand’s lead building scientist Skylar Swinford. “We were nearly overwhelmed by the flood of work from Clean Energy Works Oregon last year.”

Home energy services at Hammer & Hand entails three steps:
1.    Home energy assessment: a thorough audit with a detailed report of retrofit recommendations.
2.    Home energy retrofits: combining expert building science with fine craftsmanship to deliver lasting home energy remodels.
3.    Energy efficiency cash incentives: connecting clients with the most generous incentives through Clean Energy Works Oregon and Energy Trust of Oregon.

“The energy audit is a powerful tool, and the field of home performance holds lots of promise for both our built and natural environment,” said Hagerman. “We’re excited to be part of the movement.”
