Perfect Market, Inc., a leading provider of traffic and content optimization solutions for web publishers, announced that Jay Budzik, chief technical officer at Perfect Market, has been appointed to the Knight News Innovation Laboratory (Knight Lab) advisory board. Established in 2011 with a $4.2 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Knight News Innovation Lab is a first-of-its-kind lab that brings together journalists and computer scientists to develop and deploy technology that will accelerate innovation in the news industry and, ultimately, improve the news and information people use to understand their communities and run their lives.
Jay Budzik is chief technical officer at Perfect Market, where Jay’s work helps the company to increase engagement, traffic and revenue for more than 45 online publishers including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The South Bend Tribune, Philly.com, and The Boston Globe. Budzik earned a Ph.D. in computer science at Northwestern. His work at the University led to the founding of Intellext, where he served as CTO. Jay also serves on the board of trustees of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), an internationally recognized teaching and learning laboratory.
“Jay is a perfect fit for the Knight Lab advisory board and brings his strong expertise and knowledge both on the technical side as an engineer as well his work at Perfect Market helping publishers and content creators navigate the changing world of publishing,” said Michael Silver, head of the Knight News Innovation Lab and former executive director of The Newspaper Consortium. “The board is a collection of strong individuals with some strong viewpoints on how to affect change, and we look forward to an ongoing exchange on the best ways for the Lab to make an impact on media innovation.”
"I am pleased to be working with the innovators at the Northwestern Knight Lab to further the creative use of technology in Journalism,” said Jay Budzik, CTO at Perfect Market, Inc. “Already the lab's innovations are having impact."
In addition to Jay Budzik’s appointment, the Knight Lab advisory board consists of John Bracken, director of media innovation at the Knight Foundation; Julianna Cole, SVP and CIO at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago; Michelle McLellan, founder and organizer of Block by Block; Matt Moog, founder and CEO of Viewpoints.com; and Michael Zimbalist, VP research and development operations at the New York Times Company.
The Knight News Innovation Lab is a joint initiative of Northwestern University’s Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Medill School of Journalism.
