SkyDox and AIIM Poll Reveals that 72% of Enterprises Users Would Like to Extend Legacy ECM Beyond the Corporate Firewall

AIIM poll also revealed that companies are actively considering implementing a range of additional third party add-ons to their SharePoint to meet user requirements for social business tools.

SkyDox, a leading provider of cloud-enabled file sharing, synchronization, storage and collaboration tools, today announced that a recent poll conducted in conjunction with Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) found that more than 72% of organizations that currently have an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system installed are considering deploying additional add-ons. These organizations would like added tools to allow them to share files and collaborate with partners, customers and suppliers outside of the corporate firewall.

The poll was conducted as part of the webinar series, “Escape the Boundaries of SharePoint for Wider Collaboration,” which was hosted by AIIM on behalf of SkyDox. More than 60 respondents participated in the online poll, representing the SMB and enterprise sector across North America and Europe. Of the participants, over 86% had implemented SharePoint. The participants also revealed that more than 77% of companies would like the content hosted on their ECM to be available on mobile devices.

According to Doug Miles, Director of Market Intelligence at AIIM: “The finding of this poll is substantiated by our own Industry Watch research reports that provide empirical evidence that organizations are seeking to extend the reach of their legacy ECM applications by adding features that help their users find, share and collaborate with external parties easily. The recent AIIM Industry Watch “'Using SharePoint for ECM: How Well is it Meeting Expectations',” revealed that companies are actively considering implementing a range of additional third party add-ons to augment their SharePoint implementations in order to drive operational efficiencies and workforce productivity. These included workflow management BPM (55%), social tools (31%), classification and taxonomy (40%) and security and rights management (41%). Of enterprise organizations with more than 5,000 employees, a large percentage (70%) use SharePoint to collaborate with employees across geographical boundaries. While this number declines for business employing 500 to 5000 personnel (43%), all organizations cite sales channel partners and suppliers as key collaborative partners to varying degrees.

The webinar highlighted recent AIIM survey findings and reviewed how companies can use cloud-enabled file sharing, collaboration and social business add-ons to increase the reach of their ECM and enhance project and team interaction. The webinar featured guest speakers from AIIM, SkyDox and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR outlined how to integrate additional add-ons to core ECM and DMS infrastructures in order to allow users to find and access relevant information and content more easily. ECHR also outlined the lessons learned from Web 2.0 based architecture and how these can be best applied to legacy systems to enhance the sharing of content in a more timely and efficient manner.
