Automotive dealerships are getting both good news and bad news in the current economic environment. The good news is that car sales are increasing; the bad news is that theft and vandalism are increasing at dealerships nation-wide. The same dealership lots where buyers shop turn into soft targets for vandals and thieves when the dealerships are closed.
Existing security precautions, including guards and passive electronic systems, are usually only effective after intruders have crossed the lots’ perimeter or, after a loss, to provide police with evidence. The cost of guards or guard services is very high and the guards themselves are prone to job-fatigue failures. “In many cases, guards and most security services react only after the damage has been done. With the Virtual Guard system, we can instantly identify any intruder and take immediate appropriate action,” according to Owen Dvir, Vice President, Virtual Guard Inc., a Los Angeles based company, http://www.GoVG.net.
Virtual Guard has introduced a proven new system to actively detect any type of intrusion at the site perimeter, as well as to track, identify, and communicate directly to the intruder. If detection, identification, and warnings are insufficient, Virtual Guard professionals make appropriate police and secondary notifications from their command and control center. To date, the Virtual Guard security solution has proven to be 100 percent effective.
Additional applications are being developed for auto dealerships and other clients throughout North America. Virtual Guard, using its’ proprietary, client-customized software, has developed a “virtual keypad” to allow for non-disruptive maintenance and deliveries to take place at dealerships during protected periods. Another exclusive feature is integrating remote gate opening, closing, and locking controlled by the Virtual Guard command and control center.
Two new services currently being developed include the integration of license plate recognition to control auto movement and placement at dealership service facilities, and consumer analytic services to determine visitor preferences and flow, enabling dealers to better understand and serve customers.
Virtual Guard’s dealership security service emerged from the hi-tech security systems used to protect US military and government installations and sites. Transformed from national to property site security by Virtual Guard, and designed to meet the special needs of auto dealerships, the system has proven its effectiveness and that it's cost saving to dealerships across the US and Canada.
The challenge on large car lots is to replicate guards with active intervention capabilities along the entire perimeter of the property, and to do so cost-effectively, continuously, and unobtrusively. “Peace of mind security requires more than traditional alarm systems and security guard services, “ according to Mr. Dvir. “Most existing security systems and services, including the guards, have a common flaw: they generate a response only after the perimeter of the property has been breached. Simply stated, an intruder cannot by-pass our system undetected.” according to Mr. Dvir.
At the heart of the Virtual Guard security solution is a hi-tech intelligent video monitoring and interactive command and control system used by the US Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and verified by leading national testing laboratories. The technology Virtual Guard has incorporated into its system has been rigorously field-tested under circumstances far exceeding all client demands.
“Our systems are self-adjusting and secure from equipment tampering,” says Mr. Dvir. The service is always on-guard from vantage points that actively oversee the dealership site beyond the property line, watching and protecting before any intruder crosses the perimeter. The Virtual Guard system is not subject to weather, lighting, electrical outages, phone line failure, counter-surveillance attacks, personnel schedules, or forced false alarm responses.
Dennis Erickson, Facility Development Director, LA Car Guy Group, began using the Virtual Guard service at their Lexus facility over three years ago. “During the period since, “ he says, “we have experienced absolutely no losses or thefts after hours while Virtual Guard has been monitoring. I have personally tested the system twice: on both occasions, I was discovered immediately upon entering the facility, and the live audio response requested that I leave the premises. I was extremely impressed with the speed of the intrusion detection and the audio statements, which were both polite as well as assertive. In addition, Virtual Guard has always given us prompt and attentive support and I always recommend them to anyone who could benefit from their services.”
