“I want parents to use the ‘JOY Journal’ method to teach their children how to start and maintain a daily, prayer journal and quiet time, thus, bringing them to have a closer relationship with Jesus,” says Jena Pinder, middle school language arts teacher and author of the new book “JOY Journal” (published by WestBow Press).
With the emergence of Tim Tebow as a star athlete in the NFL, young Christians have been given a role model who shares the values that Christian parents want to pass along to their children. But, as Pinder points out, parents must encourage the spiritual development and religious education of their children.
“According to a recent Barna study, almost 50 percent of Americans are getting saved by the age of 13 or younger,” says Pinder. “However, children cannot be expected to advance their faith without developing their own personal prayer and quiet time. Parents must take an active role in their children’s spiritual development and provide them with the tools necessary.”
Pinder’s the “JOY Journal” is an easy-to-use tool which, used along with the Bible, helps parents teach their children how to keep a daily prayer journal and establish a quiet time.
She hopes readers will find that keeping a prayer journal as part of a daily, quiet time will lead them to find fulfillment with their life in Christ. As she says, “Finding JOY means that believers, both young and old, set aside time every day to have a daily, personal, prayer time that includes giving thanks, praying for others, and recognizing their own sins and struggles.”
