Investment Management Consultants Association® (IMCA®) today announced that the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is now a registered education provider for the Certified Investment Management AnalystSM (CIMA®) certification. The addition of Chicago Booth aligns with IMCA’s tradition of working in conjunction with highly regarded business schools, and provides another venue for CIMA candidates to complete the required executive education portion of the certification. The first CIMA certification class at Chicago Booth is scheduled for July 9-14.

“The University of Chicago Booth School of Business is a natural fit to deliver an additional education option for CIMA candidates,” said Sean R. Walters, CAE, IMCA’s executive director and CEO. “As one of the country’s most prestigious business schools, Booth is a welcome addition to the CIMA certification program. We thank those at the school who have worked to assure the Booth program meets IMCA standards and candidates’ needs, and we look forward to advancing our mutually-beneficial relationship.”

“After years of planning and anticipation, we are pleased that Chicago Booth has been selected by IMCA as an education provider for the CIMA certification,” said John Heaton, Joseph L. Gidwitz Professor of Finance and Faculty Director of the CIMA certification program at Booth. “As one of the world’s leading business schools in finance, Booth has the faculty capabilities, cutting-edge application, and research to thoroughly cover the CIMA curriculum and bring it to life. Participants who select Booth for their CIMA education should be prepared for an intense, challenging week of instruction. We are confident they will leave with the knowledge needed to successfully complete the CIMA certification and the ability to think through complex problems to their clients’ benefit.”
CIMA certification earned accreditation by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in April 2011, making it the first financial services credential in the United States to meet international standards (ISO 17024) for personnel certification. IMCA membership increased seven percent to more than 8,400 in 2011, and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business will help meet the expected growth of and increased demand for CIMA certification.

The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, also offers the education component for CIMA certification and has since 1988. In addition to providing education for CIMA certification, University of Chicago Booth School of Business offers the education component for IMCA’s Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) designation. Both the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, are ranked among America’s best five business schools, according to the 2011 Forbes annual ranking of top business schools in the U.S.
CIMA certification, started in 1988, is designed for advanced investment advisors and consultants, and the CPWA designation is suited for wealth management professionals working with high-net-worth clients. In addition to these certifications, IMCA hosts five conferences for thousands of investment and wealth management professionals each year, including the IMCA 2012 Annual Conference, scheduled for April 23–25 near Washington DC.
