“These power systems are absolutely essential to Palau,” said Clifford Yuen, Hawthorne Power Systems’ Engine Business Manager.

Hawthorne Power Systems, an authorized Caterpillar dealer in the Pacific, delivered a 2-megawatt (MW) generator to the Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) earlier this month. The generator, which was shipped from Hawaii, is stationed at the Aimeliik Power Plant compound to support the Babeldaob area and relieve the Ngerulmud Capitol generator.
When combined with two existing generators in Koror, this $996,000 generator allows the PPUC to have one continuous grid with 14MW of total capacity, enough to meet total demand, according to the PPUC.
The generator enables all commercial customers to be on PPUC’s grid, even those who were previously asked to self-generate. This added power also allows the PPUC to overhaul the Aimeliik Power Plant, which was damaged by fire in November. A new power plant is expected on Palau through 2013 JICA grant aid.
“These power systems are absolutely essential to Palau,” said Clifford Yuen, Hawthorne Power Systems’ engine business manager. “Our technicians recently commissioned the unit, which was brought online January 19. We are excited to assist with such vital power generation needs.”
