Miami Fat Supply announced today, receipt of patent for their high volume fat harvesting device, The Red Head (U.S. Patent No. 8,100,874). This technology is designed to help in the collection and separation of adipose tissue (fat) for the purpose of full body contouring, breast reconstruction, the popular Brazilian Butt Lift, and collection of tissue prior to stem cell isolation for a wide variety of therapies.
According to Mark Jordan, owner of Miami Fat Supply and inventor of the Red Head, this device is a huge leap forward in fat collection. The device reduces procedure time since it cleans and separates the fat from the fluid as the harvesting procedure is being performed. The Red Head is a closed system that greatly reduces the risk of infection since the fat stays in a sterile environment throughout the procedure.
Jordan added, “After observing many times, the most common method for fat harvesting where the fat is collected in a large glass jar that is resterilized and used repeatedly with different patients, the fat then being dumped into a colander, usually purchased at a kitchen store, strained into a bowl, and then hand spooned into a syringe for reinjection, I realized a new method was needed. It was clear that this kind of manipulation contributed to cell damage, and significant fat loss since the colander is more commonly used for straining spaghetti than fat. Throughout the whole process the fat is openly exposed to the air raising the possibility of contamination and infection.”
Miami Fat Supply is pleased to provide this simple, yet advanced technology to improve the surgical process, improve patient outcome and improve safety for not only the patient but the operating staff as well.
