The clinic has been around for awhile now, and we’ve made quite a name for ourselves.

Aura Laser Skin Care announced today a major addition to its clinical staff, tripling its number of active medical aestheticians to better serve its rapidly increasing patient base.

Katy Issa, lead aesthetician and partner in the clinic with her husband, Nader, said a business boom led to the hiring spree, the largest in the clinic’s seven-year history. Aura Laser, which operates facilities in the Bothell and Kirkland neighborhoods of the Seattle metropolitan area, enjoyed its busiest year in 2011, setting new records for number of patients assisted and number of successful treatments.

“Business has been going very well,” Katy ssa said. “We’ve had a huge number of returns and referrals from existing patients, which is always a good thing.”

When the clinic first opened its doors in Bothell in 2005, it was staffed only by Katy – who earned a pre-nursing associate’s degree at Bellevue Community College and attended Lee’s International Academy of Aesthetics and Skin – and Nader, a former software engineer and graduate of Kansas University, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering, along with a physician and one administrative staff. The Issas added a second esthetician in 2007. In 2008, Aura Laser Skin Care opened a second location in Kirkland, WA and added two more medical aestheticians.

As 2011 drew to a close, they realized they needed a lot more help.

“We’re quite well-versed in what we do,” Katy Issa noted. “The clinic has been around for a while now, and we’ve made quite a name for ourselves.”

Among the attractions drawing patients to Aura Laser Skin Care is the clinic’s new Fractional CO2 laser – considered the most effective weapon in combating wrinkles, aging skin, acne scars and other skin imperfections – and a wide range of services including laser hair removal, Botox® cosmetic treatments, vein therapy, SmartLipo™ laser lipolysis, Body-Jet® water assisted liposuction, microdermabrasion and more.

Also helping, Katy Issa noted, is Aura Laser Skin Care’s focus on darker skin tones, a rarity in the dermatological industry.

“From the moment we opened, we treated ethnic skin types, especially African Americans and other dark-skinned patients,” she said. “Providing these services has always been a unique challenge when it comes to dark skin, because lasers like to burn dark skin. Lasers are attracted to color. If a laser is being used for something like hair removal, it goes after the color in the hair. But a laser isn’t human, and if it sees darkness in the skin, it’s going to target that instead.

“Many dark-skinned people have hyper-pigmentation and other serious skin-care issues, including hair removal,” added Katy Issa, a dark-skinned Iranian-Russian who tested many Aura Laser Skin Care procedures on herself to make sure they were safe for patients, including laser treatments and chemical peels.

“I learned quite a bit,” she said. “Dark skin can tolerate a lot more than what was perceived by dermatologists and plastic surgeons. But it takes a highly trained technician to render these treatments safe and, at the same time, keep them effective.”

Along with free consultations, CareCredit® financing options, “unmatched prices” and “a constant focus on the patient’s wellbeing,” those impressive services have kept Aura Laser Skin Care’s treatment rooms filled. All told, the clinic more than doubled its 2010 business in 2011, treating over 10,000 patients – and encouraging the hiring of the three new full time aestheticians, who joined the clinic this month.

“We’re thrilled to have these new professionals on board,” noted Katy Issa, who personally consults on all treatments to ensure maximum patient safety. “We were incredibly busy in 2011 and we think 2012 will be even busier. We treat all skin types and colors, of course, but our unique focus on ethnic skin types is really proving successful, both as a business model and as a vital healthcare service for a previously underserved population.”

“With the number of new patients coming through the door, we had the very happy problem of having to make significant staff additions,” she added. “Hopefully, we’ll have to hire even more, very soon!”
