Greencastle, IN (PRWEB) January 31, 2012
The Electronics Technicians Association International(ETA) began offering its first fiber optic certification, the Fiber Optic Installer (FOI), in 1996. Now, 16 years later, ETA offers many fiber optic related certifications: Fiber Optics Installer (FOI), Fiber Optics Technician (FOT), Fiber Optics Technician – Outside Plant (FOT-OSP), Fiber Optics Designer (FOD), ARINC Fiber Fabricator (AFF), ARINC Fiber Installer (AFI), ARINC Fiber Technician (AFT), SAE Fiber Fabricator (SFF), SAE Fiber Installer (SFI), SAE Fiber Technician (SFT).
ETA first began offering the fiber optic certifications with the realization that in the very near future demand for skilled, qualified workers in a young booming industry would sky rocket. ETA could not be more pleased with the growth in this industry. Today, ETA has issued over 43,000 fiber-related certifications.
With so many exciting features and benefits of optical fibers, it is no wonder that employment in the fiber optics industry is expected to continue growing. With the U.S. population having doubled over the last 50 years¹ and the continued expansion into rural areas, new lines will be installed which will require maintenance². This will result in more jobs for technicians in the fiber optics industry.
ETA fiber optics certifications can not only help a technician obtain employment but they can also increase earning potential. Employers are seeking qualified, skilled workers. An ETA certification proves to employers that the technician has demonstrated his/her skills and knowledge through rigorous theory and hands-on examinations. ETA requires that an individual attend an ETA-approved training course in order to sit for any of the fiber optic certification examinations.
A list of the ETA-approved fiber schools can be obtained through the ETA website or by contacting an ETA representative. The ETA fiber optic certification examinations range in cost from $150 - $175.
