AMIkids Inc., a nationally-recognized not-for-profit that offers a promising future to more than seven thousand youth each year, is hosting the annual AMIkids Winter Challenge Event from January 30 - Feb 2 at The Word of Life Retreat Center in Hudson, Fla.. This incredibly inspiring event will give more than 250 AMIkids youth participants the opportunity to compete in a variety of competitive sporting and challenging academic events that will motivate and encourage them to strive for ongoing success, not only here, but throughout their young lives.

“Though often found in undesirable situations, whether at home or in the classroom, many of our kids have been unable to stand out among their peers in a way that will lead them down a positive path,” said Heyward Golden, vice president of operations at AMIkids, Inc. “Our Winter Challenge event will not only give them a positive, interactive and safe environment where they may shine individually, but it will also teach the many benefits and rewards that can be achieved when they choose to dedicate their time, energy and talents in a productive and focused way.”

Featured at the event will be Anthony Hargrove, Super Bowl Champion (New Orleans Saints, 2010) and now Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman. Hargrove and his group from Team Hargrove Management will be in attendance on Tuesday, January 31st. Also featured will be 1994 AMIkids graduate William Ortiz of Fitness Blueprint in New Jersey. Ortiz will be addressing the group at Wednesday evening’s award ceremony.

Hargrove and Ortiz each know first-hand what these kids are struggling with in life.

“I’ve been there, it’s hard to be confident and feel like you can do anything without the opportunity to prove yourself,” said Hargrove. “I see just how much an event like this really makes a difference and gives them a second chance, something that I know we all need from time to time.”
