E-Waste is taking a heavy toll on the environment, so we created a program that both fulfills our customers’ needs and benefits the environment in a positive way.

Smith & Associates, an industry leader in the field of global electronics distribution, today announced that it will expand its asset disposition service offerings to include “E-Waste Days” for businesses and office properties in the Houston area.

The program, which allows businesses to safely and securely recycle used and/or inoperable electronics in an environmentally-responsible manner, gives customers the opportunity to properly recycle outdated electronic equipment without having to worry about data security breaches or penalties for improper disposal.

“E-Waste is taking a heavy toll on the environment, so we created a program that both fulfills our customers’ needs and benefits the environment in a positive way,” said Scott Flowers, Director of Asset Disposition of Smith. “Our E-Waste Day program makes it easy for businesses and property managers to save space and energy by getting rid of old equipment, as well as support the environment by reducing the amount of E-Waste in landfills.”

Once an “E-Waste Day” is scheduled, Smith provides full support for all aspects of the event including:

  •     Development of marketing materials to promote the event
  •     Freight, gas and trucking provided
  •     Shrink wrap and pallet services
  •     Onsite packaging
  •     100 percent of labor needs

After the equipment is collected, it is processed through one of Smith’s EPA compliant, E-Steward certified recycling partners. Kirk Wehby, Smith’s Vice President of Operations, said that electronics that store data, such as hard drives, are destroyed or wiped to guarantee that no customer information is ever compromised.

“Information security is something we take very seriously, and we have guidelines in place to ensure that all hard drives are destroyed or wiped before the hardware is recycled,” Wehby said. “Using our in-house data wipe machines, we perform a 3-pass data wipe to permanently erase data from hard drives to Department of Defense standards.”
