Build Group, Inc. (http://www.buildgc.com) today announced that the company has broken ground on .504 MW of solar parking lot canopy structure for long time client REC Solar, Inc. at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinez, CA. The project, which will be built in two busy, occupied parking lots, includes 51 units of Solumbria, Build Group’s patent pending system that adjusts to fit any photovoltaic panel regardless of manufacturer. Because the site is located within an earthquake zone the structures are also designed to meet stringent seismic requirements.

Build Group will keep the parking lots open by sequencing the work to accommodate automobile and pedestrian traffic. The construction team will post prominent signs and perform careful preplanning of logistics to ensure the safety of hospital staff, patients and visitors during construction.

“We invented Solumbria in response to our clients’ desire for a more adaptable solution. The unique system allows us to expedite construction thereby minimizing impact on business operations.” said Eric Horn, Build Group’s Chief Operating Officer, “We are pleased to provide an innovative product that will help the Veterans Affairs Administration achieve their goal of becoming a leader in alternative energy.”

"Build Group worked with us very successfully at the VA Medical Center in West Los Angeles. They deliver high quality construction and proactive service while keeping the VA's busy parking lots in full operation.” said Burke Kascha-Hare, Director of Federal Business Development at REC Solar, Inc. “Their innovative Solumbria product revolutionizes canopy design and allows us to give clients ultimate flexibility.”

With 13 MW under construction or in design to be completed by year end, Build Group’s other notable solar structure projects include: another 7 MW for REC Solar at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center; 1.6 MW for REC Solar at the Bay Pines, Florida Veterans Affairs Medical Center; 1.6 MW for RQ/Berg Joint Venture at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina; 8 MW for Chevron Energy Solutions at various campus throughout Eastside Union High School District in San Jose, California and 9 MW for Solar City at various school districts in Lancaster, Chico and Davis, California.
