A New Barbados.org video offers a rare insight into an age old tradition and part of the Barbados heritage of horse racing and polo - See Barbados Holidays Horses Sea Side Therapy Video

The Video shows the interaction of horses and grooms as the horses are exercised in the waters at the Barbados Yacht Club. The water provides smooth and even resistance across the horse’s entire body while supporting it at the same time. Because the animal is swimming, hooves don’t strike the ground and jar the animal. The sea water, with its high concentration of salt and minerals, is also healing, and both owners and horses appear to fully enjoy the outing.
Owners and grooms take horses down to the water before a race or polo match to get them ready. After the race, the horses come down to cool off and release some of the pressures that build within them during the equestrian event.
”Being with them as an outsider, one is struck by the close ties, communication and affection between the horse and his groom. The animals are strikingly beautiful and intelligent, they seem to pose for the camera and look straight into the lens,” says Ian R Clayton, on location with RealHolidays.TV.
This first-in-a-series of videos from Barbados.org takes viewers behind the scenes of the Barbados horse culture. The rich history of racing and polo are examined in detail, bringing the sport of kings to the world at large. Cultural heritage tourism has long been a mainstay of Barbados.
The video gives some sense of what it is to own a polo or racing horse in Barbados. The picturesque backgrounds, crystal Caribbean waters, bright blue sky and sunshine are as much a part of the video as the horses. While it is very much a tourist island, Barbados is also an offshore business economy with multinational corporations and a business elite that enjoy all that the island offers as much as the many visitors who travel to Barbados for their holidays. Horse racing is enjoyed by visitors and Barbadians alike.
Equestrian events, which have been a part of the island for generations, have recently attracted worldwide attention and become a major tourism attraction. Some people come to Barbados strictly for these events. With four polo fields and a very active international polo schedule, this tiny Caribbean island is attracting the world’s top players and owners.
