Direct2tv, a provider of the nation's leading satellite TV service, is offering its first-ever scholarship to students who can explain how technology has had a positive influence on their social and intellectual lives.

The recipient of the Media & Technology Blogging Scholarship will earn $1,000 to use for educational expenses. High school seniors, undergraduate students and graduate students are eligible for the prize.

“This is an exciting opportunity to consider the breadth in which students use technology,” said marketing analyst Sarah Renner. “From simply enjoying a television show to creating a website to support a social cause across the globe, there is no limit to how technology can be used. We look forward to learning how students are utilizing technology to advance their own ideas and initiatives.”

Students interested in competing for the scholarship must write a 300 to 1,000 word blog entry that addresses the following questions.

  •     What draws you to various types of technology?
  •     What knowledge do you take away from your use of these types of technology?
  •     How does your interaction with technology affect your experiences in society?
  •     How does your overall lifestyle influence your engagement with technology?

“This is a unique platform for students to apply for a scholarship while simultaneously sharing their thoughts and exhibiting their own websites,” said Senior Manager Kurt Schron.

The winner will be selected based on the thoughtfulness and originality, writing quality, and the overall quality of the applicant's blog.

Applications for the Media & Technology Blogging Scholarship are due by June 1, 2013. The winner will be notified July 1, 2013.
