Big Day Network's simple-to-use, web based application will enable event vendors and venues to easily connect with local consumers planning a ‘big day’ such as weddings, birthday parties and baby showers. Recent Rutgers grad and company cofounder Diana Hernandez says, "Event professionals get to see who is in need of their services and instantly provide them with customized pitches, coupons and special promotions to help create a sale." It drives targeted leads directly to a vendor’s website and social media pages including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and others.
With the economy at a standstill, many small business owners are creatively looking for ways to increase profits. Irene Starks, owner at Hawthorne House, an award winning event venue in Kansas City says, "We have a smaller room that does not get booked frequently. It is ideal for corporate meetings and baby showers but the high cost of marketing and advertising the space has kept us from promoting it. This app is the perfect solution."
The student entrepreneurs were determined to build a platform where businesses could offer their services to connected consumers in a time saving and cost effective way. Janine Brumbaugh, a mother of three and event consumer, volunteered to beta test the app. “I was amazed at how simple and organized the process was. I planned a sweet 16 party for my daughter a few months ago and searching for vendors was very time consuming. This app could have saved me a lot of aggravation.”
Staying up to date on industry trends is imperative in business today, but market research can be expensive and challenging. By becoming one of the professionals using this app, it will offer valuable insight into the current profile of event consumers. Are they waiting longer to begin planning an event? What are the current trends? What services are they budgeting more or less for? This app permits vendors to adapt their products and services to align with a potential customer’s needs.
The company’s founders are currently searching for adventurous event professionals of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds to join their provider network. The group has offered up lifetime membership to vendors and venues, which includes free access to all leads, in return for a one-time $25 donation to their crowdfunding campaign.
Big Day Network, dubbed “a smarter way to party”, was created by a few elite Rutgers students. Initial funding for the venture came from taking second place in the Annual Rutgers Business Plan Competition (sponsored by the NJ Sales Executive Club), and the students’ own personal savings. They are looking forward to sharing their creation with the world later this year.
