Super-athlete, British-born Alex Flynn, is an intrepid adventurer with a difference. Today, 10th October 2012, between 13:00 and 14:00 EST, Alex will run his final mile down Broadway having completed approximately 3,500 miles in total from West to East Coast USA as part of his dedicated fundraising activity in support of Team Fox, the community fundraising arm of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

This intoxicating voyage, entitled The Trans-America Challenge’, blends four key sporting disciplines including cycling, climbing, running and kayaking through some of The US’s most challenging routes (eg Death Valley and Mount Whitney) and in all manner of weather conditions and terrain. A daunting feat for any able bodied person let alone one living with the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease.

In the words of Alex Flynn, who has completed the mission in an effort to raise US$50,000 for an imminent cure for Parkinson’s disease:

“I truly never thought today would come and that I would still have energy let alone movement in my body. My legs are testament to the fact that we are all capable of anything in our lifetime, regardless of what challenges face us, big or small. I am completely in awe of all of the support I have had both Stateside and farther afield: from The Michael J. Fox Foundation and VW, to the deVere Group, Orbea, the Clorex Group, Garmin, Saucony, Buff and OMM.

“For the sake of future generations of Parkinson’s sufferers, I will do everything in my power to raise awareness and funds into research for the very disease that afflicts me on a daily basis. Having now completed ‘The Trans-America Challenge’, one of many sporting challenges I have undertaken since 2008 when I was enjoying life as a lawyer, I am already planning for the next epic trip.

“Throughout the world, Parkinson’s is being diagnosed earlier than before and is afflicting people at an increasingly young age so it is absolutely imperative that we do what we can to help future generations better understand and manage this disease. A cure is out there and we will find it*”, he added.

In addition to ‘The Trans-America Challenge’, Alex Flynn has participated in the following events including ultra-endurance marathons over the last four years since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Alex’s aim is to cover a total of 10 million meters in his quest to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease:

-1457 mile Trans Europe (where he met The Pope)
-The Dubai Marathon and others
-Marathon des Sables
-Otter Trail Race
-Challenge Henley (Ironman distance TRI)
-The London Triathlon
