FuzeBox, the global leader in real-time visual collaboration solutions, announces a major coup today with the hiring of Michael Knappe, VoIP pioneer and co-founder of the VoIP Forum Industry Consortium, as Director of Engineering. The company is also announcing a number of major corporate milestones, including that its Fuze Meeting application is now in use by over 35 Fortune 500 companies, as well as the opening of a new office in San Mateo, California.
Michael Knappe joins FuzeBox with over 24 years of telecommunications experience under his belt. Knappe’s notable career history includes specializing in voice over packet technology as an engineer at Nortel Networks, being a part of the seed group of five people who established the Voice over IP engineering program at Cisco Systems, and leading engineering for VoIP branch router development at Juniper. Knappe is also the co-inventor listed on 35 U.S. patents in the areas of packet voice, audio signal processing and audio/video conferencing. His technical knowledge and expertise is central to FuzeBox’s continued drive to offer best-in-class audio and visual conferencing technology.
Michael Knappe also served as a co-founder and chairman of the VoIP Forum Industry Consortium, which became a key momentum builder for VoIP during its infancy. At its peak in 1997, over 60 companies participated, including Microsoft, Intel, Lucent, and Cisco. Knappe’s work in the forum, as well as key products he helped develop as a leading engineering manager at Cisco, made VoIP a mainstream technology by the late 1990s.
“As one of the original innovators and drivers of VoIP’s mainstream adoption, Michael’s experience will help us further our product strategy with enhanced voice and sound, bringing an even higher quality experience to our users,” says Jeff Cavins, CEO of FuzeBox.
In addition, FuzeBox has seen remarkable growth in Q3 2012. The company currently provides over 60,000 hours of audio conferences each month and the company’s platform now powers over 78,000 online meetings per day, in 122 countries and 10 different languages. The enterprise has taken notice: FuzeBox’s collaboration products are now serving 35 Fortune 500 companies, with its solutions proving to be more effective and dynamic than competing products. FuzeBox will continue to improve on its world-class product offering as it opens its office in San Mateo, where Knappe and its expanded Silicon Valley development team will be based.
