Appointment to The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Advisory Council is an honor for me and extends my commitment to serve my community
Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) October 11, 2012
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC) has named Gary Bell an inaugural member. Bell, CEO of Berkeley small business loan specialists Cooperative Center Federal Credit Union and candidate for Richmond City Council, will serve a 2-year term for the CUAC.
The CUAC works to ensure that the Bureau stays in touch with the unique needs and perspectives of credit unions and strengthens the Bureau’s charge to serve and protect consumers. Bell is running as a candidate for Richmond City Council on a platform of financial empowerment, visionary leadership and a strong commitment to Richmond’s youth and business communities.
As an appointed Representative Member of the Advisory Council, Mr. Bell will be counted on to provide key insight, expertise, analysis and information to the Bureau, enabling them to achieve the priorities, objectives and policies of the Credit Union Advisory Council and the Bureau’s other advisory councils.
“Appointment to The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Advisory Council is an honor for me and extends my commitment to serve my community,” says Bell. “I am honored to recommit my time and skills to help make Richmond the best it can be. As you may recall from my previous service as a member of the Richmond City Council, I bring proven financial expertise, much needed civil leadership and a deep devotion to service to this city I have come to love.”
The CFPB supervises depository institutions and credit unions with total assets of more than $10 billion and their respective affiliates. The Advisory Council provides a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practice between credit union professionals and Bureau staff. The Advisory Council helps guide the Bureau’s regulation of consumer financial products and services and provides information, analysis and recommendations to the Bureau. The purpose of the Advisory Council is to better inform the CFPB’s policy development, rulemaking and engagement functions.
