Pulling business’ websites out of rock bottom was the topic of esd & associates Creative Director Erik Simpson’s latest workshop to fellow creative and web designers. http://esdandassociates.com/our-work-2/?=webdesign#slidecontainer
Simpson’s message was clear: Inefficient, unattractive websites simply do not deliver a professional brand persona. Poor web design implies a lack of attention to detail, customer experience and intent to follow through.
According to Simpson, one of the common mistakes found among business websites is challenging content. Because customers are busy, they do not have time to wait several minutes for a website to load or read through large paragraphs of information.
“Most people don’t have the time to read pages and pages of information on a company website. They want information that is quick and the point,” said Simpson, who also suggested that businesses keep their information updated and accurate.
In addition to challenging content, Simpson listed poor navigation as a common mistake. He suggested that businesses create clear navigation paths for their customers so that their customers get the answers to their questions as efficiently as possible.
Distracting fonts and unattractive website colors/design also ranked among the most common mistakes that many businesses make.
“At esd & associates, we want our potential customers to be impressed by not only the content on our website but on the website’s look and feel as well,” Simpson said. “We want every business to have this same mentality.”
If businesses lead potential customers to a poorly organized and unattractive website, these customers will begin to question whether a business can adequately meet their needs.
“First impressions matter, especially when it comes to a business’ website,” Simpson said. “Fix the mistakes and your business’ website will be stylish, professional and attract more potential customers.”
