On October 18th, Colle Farmers Market commends an article published by The Huffington Post which reveals the importance of an organic diet in children and the many reasons why eating organically is better for kids.

In The Huffington Post article, Maria Rodale, CEO and Chairman of Rodale, Inc. and book author, provides various reasons why parents should choose organic products when considering their child’s diet. Rodale states that organic foods contain fewer toxins and antibiotics, making it a safer choice for children. According to Rodale, “Organic foods, as you would expect, have much fewer pesticide and other residues on them.” In addition, organic eating means fewer toxins will plague the surrounding environment as well. Rodale also explains that, “Antibiotics are used in factory animal farming because--lo and behold--it's cheaper to feed them than food, and they make the animals fat real fast!” Rodale goes on to explain, “Then what happens is both the animals and humans who eat those animals become resistant to the very antibiotics that could save their lives.” The Huffington Post reports that chemical foods can also lead to lower IQs in children. The article states, “Quite a few studies that show a connection between pesticides and insecticides and reduced IQ.”

Colle Farmers Market commends Rodale’s educational article and supports organic farmers and natural product vendors across the globe. According to Rodale, while the price of eating organically may deter some people, the overall benefits are wholly worthwhile. Colle Farmers Market recognizes how the price of organic may prevent consumers from eating organically. For this reason, Colle Farmers Market has created the first online platform that will connect consumers with organic farmers, regardless their budget, making it possible for everyone to live a healthy, organic lifestyle.

Rodale explains that eating organically also benefits children by teaching children to enjoy eating their vegetables, teaching them to learn label reading at an early age, and allows children to feel like they are making positive food choices. Rodale concludes that organic foods taste better and states, “See, the truth is once you start eating organic food, you taste nonorganic food in a whole new way.”
