The Cowboy Rides Away Tour will sadly be country music superstar, George Strait's, last tour. Strait announced the tour at a very appropriate venue and city -- the Country Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
Strait's upcoming tour is pegged to be in celebration of his storied career in country music. He made sure to put his most favorite venues on his list of stops over the next 2 years. He has set over 20 concert dates in 2013 and plans are for 20 more performances the following year in 2014. This will be like a 2 year going away party for George who is amicably referred to as "King George" by the country music crowd.
He has made it perfectly clear to his millions of fans that he is not retiring, and that his "Cowboy Rides Away" tour will be his last large scale concert tour. George has said that he will continue to record songs and appear live on occasion, but at a more relaxed pace. Strait has been touring for over 30 years and he expressed that touring and traveling are hectic and he wants to try something new by not having his large scale annual tours which would certainly tire anyone out. Concertgoers can expect the usual George Strait sing along audience participation songs along with some big surprises.
The first show will be in Lubbock, Texas on January 18th at the United Spirit Arena. George and Martina will be at the popular Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston during the Spring along with visits to many other large cities and venues.
One can find George Strait's name in many record books since he has had an amazing 59 No. 1 hits over the years. His first single was "Unwound" which was released over 30 years ago in 1981. According to Newsday in New York, Strait may be the only artist to have a top ten song each and every year over the entire duration of their career.
Additionally, he has 38 gold records, 13 multi-platinum and 33 platinum records to his credit. He became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
