Belfast: The latest Duport Business Confidence Report shows that, during the first six months of the year, Belfast saw a rise of over 2% in the number of female director appointments. More good news for female entrepreneurs came during the summer, when Business Secretary, Vince Cable announced that the number of women in the boardrooms of the UK’s top companies has increased in the past year.
The figures announced by Mr Cable show that the number of women appointed to the boards of the UK’s top companies has reached unprecedented levels, with women now making up 16.7% of FTSE 100, and 10.9% of FTSE 250 boards, up from 12.5% and 7.8% respectively in 2010.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said:
“The rising number of women directors in Belfast is a very positive development for the city. More female directors should bring a fresh outlook to business community, and help diversify the economy of the area.”
“Our report shows that, as well as rising numbers of women directors, directors under 25 years old are also increasing, which should also help new ideas flow into the business landscape.”
