The importance of having a CO2 detector in your home can’t be stressed enough. It could save your family’s lives.
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) October 14, 2012
KDKA TV Investigator, Mary Robb Jackson reported a number of home evacuations in the Pittsburgh area due to C02 threats were possible because of warning by a carbon monoxide detector.
“The importance of having a CO2 detector in your home can’t be stressed enough. It could save your family’s lives. If the detector goes off, leave your home immediately, then dial 911,” said Pat Cray, owner of South Hills Electric Heating Cooling during the interview.
“This also goes to the heart of community and public safety. If a home in your neighborhood experiences an undetected CO2 incident it could put the entire neighborhood in serious danger. The New York Times reported just such an incident,” added South Hills Electric Heating Cooling.
KDKA’s Ms. Jackson also stated, “Pennsylvania ranks high in annual carbon monoxide fatalities, with 15,000 trips to the emergency room, and, 500 unintentional deaths due to CO2.
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) says early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning such as headaches, nausea, and fatigue, are often mistaken for the flu because the deadly gas goes undetected in a home. Prolonged C02 exposure can lead to brain damage and even death.
Installation of a carbon monoxide detector is quick and easy, and, the first step in being proactive in keeping your family safe from most CO2 threats. The CDC recommends annual furnace check-ups, including any gas, oil or coal burning appliance, with a possible water heater and pipes check for good measure. This can all be done by a reputable HVAC contractor, who is licensed, registered, and insured, at very reasonable cost to the homeowner.
