“Everyone, adults and children alike, should feel free to enjoy sweet treats without stressing about it... Some may see it as a small thing, but it does make a huge difference to lift someone’s spirits"

Monrovia, CA (PRWEB) October 16, 2012

The day after Halloween, San Gabriel Valley dentist Dr. Emily Letran is hosting a “Cash for Candy” event and paying local children $1 per pound for their excess Halloween candy.

“Most kids end up with a lot more candy than they know what to do with. We wanted to give them an opportunity to improve their health and give them a fun incentive for doing it,” says Dr. Letran.

Aside from earning a profit from their Halloween night efforts, participating children can also feel good that their candy is going to a good cause. All the candy collected will be given to Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization that prepares and sends care packages to U.S. service members deployed in hostile regions, children left behind, and veterans.

“I’m not anti-candy,” Dr. Letran says. “Everyone, adults and children alike, should feel free to enjoy sweet treats without stressing about it. But there are some people that aren’t in a position to get sweets so easily. Some may see it as a small thing, but it does make a huge difference to lift someone’s spirits - especially those that are fighting to preserve our freedom and traditions.”

Office staff are also accepting donations of dental hygiene products such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, and mouthwash. After the event, office staff will deliver all candy and donations to Operation Gratitude.

Candy will be collected at two locations on Thursday November 1, 2012 between 2:00pm and 6:00pm. Parents can take their children to Foothill Dental at 837 W. Foothill Blvd, Monrovia CA 91016 or Mountain View Dental at 4639 N. Peck Rd, El Monte CA 91732. Staff will give $1 per pound of unopened candy (up to 5 pounds). Children must be accompanied by an adult.
