Churches are taking the challenge to equip their new members with a biblical foundation. Over 1,100 churches launched the 30-Day Church Challenge in 2012.
Research conducted by Thom Ranier shows that churches lose new members after 90 days. This 30-Day Church Challenge can help retain visitors and guests. Outreach Inc. has developed the 30-Day Church Challenge new member resources at (http://www.outreach.com/campaigns/30-day-church-challenge/new-members.aspx).
In a recent Barna survey, three out of five church-goers said they could not remember something they learned at church the last time they attended. Of those surveyed, half had been in church within the last week.
The 30-Day Church Challenge provides an opportunity for churches to integrate their church history and governing laws into one class to help new comers become familiar with the church heritage, the pastor and others in the congregation while helping them to get involved in the church and local community.
"By refocusing on the five main purposes of the church and living them out, congregations won't just come to church; they will become the church," said Eric Abel, vice president of marketing at Outreach, Inc. "Our communities are searching not just for a place to go, but for a community of faith. The church can become that powerful, inspirational and transformational Body of Christ."
The 30-Day Church Challenge is a five-week series based on the biblical model of the church, found in the book of Acts, second chapter, that will challenge church new members to: devote themselves to authentic community, develop a worship lifestyle, commit to spiritual growth, embrace stewardship and generous lifestyle, and engage in sharing God's love and the Gospel with others.
Each topic is framed in a way that fosters hope and opportunities to discuss life challenges that many of us face. Through customizable small group lessons with specific weekly challenges. And, the resource DVD contains video illustrations of everyday people telling their life-changing stories and the impact church has had on their lives. Video samples can be viewed at (http://www.outreach.com/campaigns/30-day-church-challenge-videos.aspx)
Small-group DVD-based studies present a focus for the week to establish the biblical significance of church and how to apply it in everyday living. Additional teaching content, graphics and planning tools are available in the church kit.
