Through the use of energy efficient technology, The Parking Authority of The City of Elizabeth has significantly reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions at the Elizabeth Parking Garage in Elizabeth, NJ. Specifically, the lighting technologies which were implemented into the parking garages have met and exceeded the requirements of the 2005 Energy Policy Act (EPAct) to be certified as “Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings.” Through the EPAct Gives Back™ program the parking authority has been rewarded for their initiatives and stewardship.
The energy saving measures demonstrates The Parking Authority of The City of Elizabeth's strong commitment to the local environment and tax paying community. The lighting system alone will save tax payers more than $34,215 per year in utility costs. The reduction in energy consumption decreases the Parking authority’s carbon emissions by 337,345 lbs. (169 tons) a year. This is equivalent to the Parking authority removing 30 cars off of local roads or planting 837 additional trees in the community.
The Parking Authority went through an intense engineering analysis and inspection process in order to meet all the requirements of the Energy Policy Act, administered by Walker Reid Strategies, Inc., and have received certificates for their achievements in Energy Conservation. Their commitment to a greener campus is admirable and an example to other institutions.
