Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) October 16, 2012
The Oklahoma car crash attorneys at Atkins & Markoff, a law firm that provides legal representation for people who have been injured because of the actions of others, hereby alerts the public that the results of a large study regarding teen drivers and road safety has been released. This study revealed that Oklahoma is one of the ten most dangerous states in the country for teen drivers based on fatality statistics for drivers of this age and other factors.
Specifically, Erie Insurance collaborated with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to analyze data that is kept by the United States Department of Transportation. The study took a comparative look at the relative rates of accidents between states that involved teen drivers between the years of 2006 and 2010. Oklahoma finished seventh on the list of most dangerous states behind only Wyoming, Montana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and West Virginia.
The statistics revealed that the death rate for teen driver in Oklahoma during this time period was 28.9 fatalities per 100,000 teen drivers on the road at any given time. This rate represented a gap of 157 percent over the average fatality rate of adult drivers on a national level. Finally, the deadliest month for teens was July and the deadliest day of the week was Saturday, according to the study.
This teen fatality rate is also part of the overall statistics regarding Oklahoma car accidents involving drivers and passengers of all ages. Every year across the state, more than 70,000 of these crashes occur, and they lead to approximately 36,000 injuries and to 700 fatalities. The Oklahoma auto accident attorneys at Atkins & Markoff hope that the results of this study lead teen drivers and their parents to exercise caution when those teens are on the roads in the state.
