Catrise L. Austin, D.D.S. wrote a book covering the topic of dental care without insurance. Now, in honor of National Dental Hygiene Month, Dr. Austin is encouraging people without dental insurance to seek routine care to avoid future problems.

Catrise L. Austin, D.D.S. says it is possible to obtain dental care without insurance. Even with the current economic challenges facing many people, Dr. Austin strongly advocates for individuals to seek out alternative payment options, including benefits provided by President Barack Obama’s Healthcare Reform Act, to maintain proper dental health. Dr. Austin, of NYC Cosmetic and General Dentistry, has made appearances on the “Today Show”, “Good Morning America,” and VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop.” Her book, “5 Steps to the Hollywood A-List Smile”, covers options for the under and uninsured when it comes to developing a dental plan.

"Seven percent of American children aged 17 (and younger) had unmet dental needs in 2011 because their families could not afford dental care", the National Center for Health Statistics said in an analysis of data collected by U.S. Census Bureau interviewers. And, thirty-three percent of uninsured children had no dental contact for more than two years, including those who never had contact. However, thanks to the Healthcare Reform Act championed by the President, individuals and children will now have expanded access to affordable, if not free, dental services. The legislation not only helps people correct tooth problems - it also works to promote early prevention.

“There is no reason for the numbers reported by the National Center for Health Statistics,” said Catrise L. Austin, D.D.S. “And, the children’s statistics are usually better than that of adults. My point is that there are too many people sacrificing their oral health, which effects your overall health, because of insurance issues. With the new legislation, access to affordable dental services is expected to continue to improve. However, there are ways to work around current challenges to obtain proper dental treatment.”

Dr. Austin hosts a free blog on the website for NYC Cosmetic and General Dentistry. The blog contains free tips on dental hygiene, cosmetic appearance, and more. “I offer a free chapter, via my practice’s website, of my book,” continued Dr. Austin. “The book contains information specific to unconventional and conventional financing options. Plus, research helps. I offer information on payment options upfront and on my website. This way my patients know the options I offer and can plan accordingly.” To download a free chapter of “5 Steps to the Hollywood A-List Smile” please click here:
