"This patent makes claims in connection with our technology that ensures a proper HDMI connection between a video source, such as a set top box or DVD player, and a viewing device, such as an HDTV screen"

All Systems Broadband (ASB) announced today the issuance of its first patent by the US Patent Office. The patent covers a unique HDMI cable which has illuminating indicators on each of its connectors.

The patent for invention number 8,251,740 is for an HDMI plug and cable assembly which includes a light that is illuminated only when properly plugged into a video source and a video sink.

“This patent makes claims in connection with our technology that allows users to assure that a proper connection has been made at both ends of an HDMI cable,” said Mike Grice, Vice President, Product Development, All Systems Broadband. “Use of this technology could potentially save service providers the significant dollars associated with unnecessary trouble calls. It is the first of what we expect will be a steady flow of innovation centered on the unique needs of our customers,” he said.

The patent covers the technology in ASB’s ConnectAssure™ HDMI cable, which has received a great deal of interest from television service providers such as CATV companies, MSO’s and telecom providers.

All Systems Broadband is a major supplier of copper and fiber connectivity products to service providers throughout North America, and has millions of its products deployed with customers, including many of the world’s largest telecommunications providers.

"Today's marketplace is growing increasingly competitive; therefore, it is imperative that service providers are able to bring down the cost of maintaining the video connection to a home. The patent’s technology eliminates the guesswork out of assuring that a viable connection exists between a set top box and a TV. End-user customers may now perform a self-check without the need for a ‘truck roll’ from the service provider,” Grice said. “These new connectors hasten troubleshooting, and lead to a much greater level of customer satisfaction.”

HDMI, the HDMI logo, and High-Definition Multimedia Interface are trademarks or registered trademarks of HDMI Licensing, LLC in the United States and other countries.
