All too often in the run-up to Christmas, waning inspiration and last minute shopping can result in spending too much on unimaginative, over-priced Christmas gifts that say very little about how much you care.
Chef Director at the Ashburton Cookery School, Darrin Hosegrove says, "People want to demonstrate to their family and friends that they are willing to invest more than just money in them, but time and effort as well. There has been a growing trend in homemade Christmas hampers, but to achieve impressive results requires some skill and that is where we can help’.
A new one-day cookery course called Edible Christmas Gifts has been launched at Ashburton which promises to teach home cooks a wealth of new ideas for creating their own attractive, homemade edible Christmas gifts.
On this hands-on course, students will learn from professional chefs how to make delicious treats such as tempting chocolate truffles and caramels, homemade fudge, biscotti, salted lemons, pickled chillies, lemon and lime curd as well as spice mixes and marinades - all beautifully packaged in kilner jars, decorative bottles, boxes and bags tied up with festive ribbons.
At the end of the course, students leave with a wealth of new cooking skills and three festive gift boxes filled with all they have made.
“You would expect to pay over £100 for equivalent store hampers, so I think this course offers good value”, says Chef Darrin. “Students are going to have a lot of fun on this course, and they will will reap the satisfaction and sense of achievement that comes from giving a beautiful, personal gift they have made themselves”.
The Edible Christmas Gifts course costs £165 includes all ingredients, tuition, lunch and materials for 3 gift boxes. The course runs throughout December on the following dates:
Sun 9th December, 2012
Sun 15th December, 2012
Sat 16th December 2012
Tue 18th December 2012
