“Esalen is a place where one goes to expand their minds, nurture their bodies, and emerge a more conscious version of themselves. Esalen delivers well-being, so I must support it,” said Firestone.

BIG SUR—In celebration of Esalen Institute’s 50th Anniversary, acclaimed oil portrait painter Robbi Firestone donated and unveiled an original portrait of the ‘father of human potentiality,’ Michael Murphy, co-founder and chairman emeritus of the board at the institute. The painting raised $15,000 donated in full to Esalen.

Firestone joined Murphy and many other honored guests, spiritual leaders, authors, professors and presenters for a 4-day retreat to include keynote speaker Marianne Williamson, Robert Reich Byron Katie, Dean Ornish and Michael Krasny at Esalen's 50th Anniversary Benefit Weekend.

Her oil painting of Murphy titled "Intelligence Triumphant" was collectively funded by 11 donors for $15,000. It was unveiled for the anniversary to recognize the founding of Esalen and the “human potential movement” which changed the way we think about science to psychology, politics, our own relationships, and how we pray, eat and work. Murphy is also a successful author of non-fiction books as well as several novels. His book, Golf in the Kingdom, was made into a major motion picture.

As a fine artist, Firestone's Spirit Capture Portraits are directly affected by her own seeking of continuous nurturing, growth and self-improvement. “Esalen is a place where one goes to expand their minds, nurture their bodies, and emerge a more conscious version of themselves. Esalen delivers well-being, so I must support it,” said Firestone.

The oil painting of Murphy also kicks off an exciting new project and next inspiration for Firestone—painting 12 global visionaries in 12 months. Her goal is to paint and showcase a dozen thought leaders from around the globe, then unveil the collection at a major cultural center in order to benefit a philanthropic cause in line with her mission and work.

A leading center for exploring and realizing human potential through experience, education, and research, the Esalen Institute was a trendsetting center model that created and inspired other psychological and spiritual focused retreats across the globe. Esalen offers hundreds of workshops each year on a wide range of topics relating to our greater human capacity with personal retreats for mind-body healing , and a think tank where academics push the boundaries of science and psychology.
