Earlier this year McKinsey predicted that the cost of batteries would drastically reduce by 2020, making EVs more competitive and able to achieve higher market penetration.

However, for industry players to turn a sustainable profit from EVs, there are many other aspects of the industry that are not yet up-to-scratch.

To be in with a chance of winning, entrants need to answer the following question by 5pmPST on Wednesday (Oct 17): Aside from the battery, what is the most important tech. development or business model that needs to happen to kick start EV uptake? If you can add what needs to occur in the industry for these advances to be made you’ll get bonus points. Answers to be emailed to:rfoulkes(at)evupdate(dot)com

Answers can be as radical or as pragmatic as they like but only a short paragraph is needed.

NB: Winners will be announced on Friday Oct 19 and answers only need to be one short paragraph.

EV Business Models & Planning USA 2012 will focus on discussion topics that will ensure all other components of the industry are geared up and able to align with these forecasts. Ensuring the grid is able to be managed, rate structures have been put into place, marketing strategies have been devised and cities are equipped to allow EVs to be as ‘easy to own’ as fossil fuel vehicles.

Senior-level industry experts including, Ford, Coulomb Technologies, Mitsubishi, Coda Automotive, Michigan Clean Cities, , Car Charging Inc, City of San Diego and many more, will address key EV industry challenges such as:
