Santa Fe's Inn and Spa at Loretto has purchased two NASA-designed chairs, allowing guests to experience the health benefits of zero gravity while being pampered with the “Heels Over Head” treatment. The treatment includes a full luxury pedicure and an option for reflexology. Engineered to reduce pressure on astronauts' spines during their launch into space, the chair has immediate health benefits such as lower blood pressure, higher blood oxygen levels and increased circulation.

The Inn and Spa at Loretto, managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, introduces the Southwest’s first zero gravity pedicure and reflexogy treatment, “Heels Over Head”, now available at their spa in downtown Santa Fe.

The Inn and Spa at Loretto has purchased two Zero Gravity Recliners for pedicure and reflexology treatments in its spa, which currently is ranked 19th in the country by Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Poll. Originally designed to reduce the amount of force exerted on astronauts’ spines during the high-speed launch into space, the recliners have a number of health benefits, including:

  •     Less pressure on the spine
  •     Reduced stress on the heart
  •     Relief of muscle tension
  •     Lower blood pressure and expanded lung capacity
  •     Increased circulation
  •     Increased blood oxygen levels

After soaking one’s feet in a copper basin filled with warm water, bath salts and rose petals, guests have the option of covering up in a richly textured Loretto blanket and wearing a scented eye pillow while preparing for lift off. The recliners feature a rich leather finish and soft modern design; a subtle brushed silver lever under the chair’s left arm gently moves the foot of the chair upwards, bringing the guest’s heels over his or her head. The technician then begins the pedicure and/or reflexology treatment, including exfoliation and massage using the Loretto’s moisturizing products.

“This treatment brings pampering to a whole new level,” said Dana Ortega, Marketing Director at the Inn and Spa at Loretto. “We want our guests to feel they are being cared for in the most beneficial way in our spa, creating wellness from the inside out.”

The Inn and Spa at Loretto is the only hotel in New Mexico that features an elevator going directly from room levels to the spa.

Reflexology begins at $75 for a 25-minute treatment and $125 for 50 minutes.

Pedicures include the following options:

Classic, 45 minutes = $79
Spa Pedicure, 55 minutes = $99
Loretto pedicure, 80 minutes = $109
