New York, NY (PRWEB) October 17, 2012

Clothing company TOMI OTEE and the Randall’s Island Golf Center announce their partnership to bring sustainable practices to the New York golfing community by encouraging golfers to donate their old golf clothing for recycling.

As the premier ecofriendly golf apparel brand, TOMI OTEE is a pioneer in the full supply chain integration of sustainable and ethical practices. This partnership with Randall’s Island Golf and Sports will include events to raise awareness, implementation of sustainable merchandising and golf staff sponsorship. The two businesses hope to influence consumers into thinking sustainably in their practice of golf and in their consuming habits.

The recycling program is part of New York city’s Re-FashioNYC program that supports recycling of clothing. TOMI OTEE and Randalls Island Golf Center will install recycling bins for textile deposits. Donations which are tax deductible, will be picked up and transported to Housing Works’ warehouse in Queens for sorting. Some donations will be sold in Housing Works’ shops throughout NYC or at one of their regular “all-you-can-stuff” warehouse sales. Some leftovers from these sales will be shipped to another nonprofit thrift shop in Haiti, while others will be made available to different nonprofit thrift shops for sale in their stores. The rest will be sold to a used textile merchant for recycling or export to overseas markets. In all cases, the profits generated from the sale of your donations will benefit low-income and homeless New Yorkers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

TOMI OTEE’s president, Thomas Ferre commented, ”We’re very excited about this opportunity and we couldn’t think of a better facility to partner with. Kelley Brooke (owner of Randall's Island Golf and Sports Center) and her team are very dynamic and eager to embrace sustainability and raise awareness around it”. Thomas added, “Our goal is to influence customers that come to play to make sure that they buy clothes made with sustainable fabrics and recycle the ones they don’t use anymore. Its all about consumers having zero environmental impact.”
