Second Rise LLC (Portland, OR) announced signing the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) as a customer for the Community Portal service. The Second Rise Community Portal powers the recently launched myICANN.org service which supports ICANN’s multi-stakeholder model by providing information and tools to deepen and broaden community engagement and participation.
Within the broad ICANN community, there are multiple supporting organizations and advisory committees as well as diverse policies under development. Separate but related conversations concerning critical Internet governance topics were occurring in each these groups, but until today there was nothing linking them together, making conversations difficult to follow. ICANN approached Second Rise with the idea of creating a portal that would aggregate information, calendars, and collaboration tools currently scattered across the many ICANN organizations and web assets. Information fed into the portal would then be grouped by topic, allowing individuals to quickly scan key data under each topic from across the entire ICANN universe.
To solve this problem, Second Rise deployed their Community Portal, providing an online place for the ICANN community to get personalized information on those topics that interest them most. Based on open source web technologies and incorporating the Attensa StreamServer (http://www.attensa. com), the portal aggregates and indexes information from existing online publication sources. These updates are then organized into key topic areas that the community can select from and subscribe to in the format of their choice, including email, news readers, and calendar subscriptions.
The portal is also able to aggregate information from operational systems, such as trouble ticketing or CRMs, and presents everything in a single dashboard to the user.
"We launched myICANN.org to increase public participation, improve organizational transparency, and in general, make it easy to engage with ICANN," said Fadi Chehade, CEO of ICANN. "We're very excited by the possibilities of this new service and the Second Rise team and services have been instrumental in making this possible."
