New York, NY (PRWEB) October 17, 2012
Goldman Sachs honors Rhys W. Powell, Founder and President of Red Rabbit, as one of the top 100 entrepreneurs of 2012. Powell is at the center of today's food revolution movement and will be saluted for his tireless pursuit to fix the school food system.
Founded in New York in 2005, Red Rabbit delivers 20 thousand farm-fresh meals a day from breakfasts, lunches and snacks to school children across the Greater New York Area. The meals are made from fresh ingredients provided directly from local farmers, suppliers and artisans. Powell and his team of food mavericks have developed a successful model for:
- Delivering healthy, kid-tested and approved meals to schools.
- Educating parents on how to make healthier food choices.
- Working with teachers and administrators to become change-agents and promote food education in their schools.
- Supporting the local economy through partnerships with farmers and suppliers.
Goldman Sachs selected Powell as one of 100 leaders from multiple industries to be honored at the invitation-only Builders & Innovators Summit in Newport Beach, CA, on October 24, 2012. “Goldman Sachs has been a supporter of Red Rabbit and our mission to fix the school food system—one community at a time,” said Rhys W. Powell, Founder and President of Red Rabbit. “I am thankful for their support and this honor. I look forward to the Builders & Innovators Summit and to meeting other esteemed honorees and brilliant business minds.”
For more than 140 years, Goldman Sachs has been advising and financing entrepreneurs as they launch and grow their businesses. In addition to honoring 100 entrepreneurs, the conference will include general sessions and clinics led by Goldman Sachs experts and resident scholars.
About Rhys W. Powell, President & Founder
Rhys W. Powell has always been interested in food, good nutrition and good health. When some friends asked him to help search out healthy options for their school age child, he was surprised to find that none existed. And so in 2005, the idea for Red Rabbit was born.
Rhys W. Powell is proud to be at the center of today's food revolution, at the helm of an innovative young company that is solving a critical problem facing administrators, parents and kids: how to eat healthy at school. A 2000 graduate of MIT, with a BS in Computer Science and Engineering, Powell was an equity trader for privately held financial services firm, Carlin Financial Group, before tapping into his entrepreneurial side and founding Red Rabbit.
