If you believe your site’s ranking is being harmed by low quality links you do not control, you can ask Google not to take them into account when accessing your site.

Google has launched a new and hotly anticipated tool to cut spam and purchased links that are affecting the visibility of a site in Google rankings. Primarily aimed at those affected by the recent Penguin Update, the tool can remove harmful, negative links and in turn increase the likelihood of appearing on page one. Throughout 2012 there have been issues and worries regarding negative SEO and bad links, so much so that companies began to offer a service to attempt to remove these.
The Disavow tool allows you to enter your domain into a box with the following in, ‘If you believe your site’s ranking is being harmed by low quality links you do not control, you can ask Google not to take them into account when accessing your site.’ Google’s blog explains this further, ‘In general, Google works hard to prevent other webmasters from being able to harm your ranking. However, if you are worried that some backlinks might be affecting your site’s reputation, you can use the Disavow Links tool to indicate to Google that those links should be ignored.’
It does however come with a warning attached, once you notify Google of the links you would like to ignore, these can take several weeks to take place as the crawling, indexing system searches your site. Part of SEO Positive’s success comes their dedication to research and keeping up to date with the latest industry updates and ensuring links are of high quality from the offset.
Ben Austin, Managing Director of SEO Positive stated, ‘This is a highly anticipated tool which is long overdue. Ever since Google changed its latest algorithm some sites have been experiencing negative SEO and have slipped down on Google’s rankings. The launch of Disavow will hopefully prevent such occurrences in the future.’
As an online promotion company SEO Positive understand the importance of usability, visibility and Google rankings in order to drive traffic to your site.
