Guidelight Business Solutions announces that the vision systems it recently developed for Matrix Electronic Measuring, L.P., have enabled Matrix to obtain crucial patents for the most innovative vehicle measurement system on the market today.
Matrix challenged Guidelight with the task of creating an easy-to-use system that would deliver precise measurements of a vehicle’s entire body and engine, giving auto technicians a complete picture of all damage to the vehicle—even damage not visible to the human eye—saving hours of labor lost and billing headaches that result when unforeseen damage is discovered after the repair process has begun.
Guidelight developed a hand-held system, the “Wand,” which uses two cameras in stereo to take simultaneous pictures of a vehicle from two different perspectives. The software Guidelight developed as part of the system then knits together the raw images to create a highly accurate, three-dimensional model of the vehicle. The stereoscopic images and precise measurements delivered by the system can be used to instantly reveal hidden damage or verify repair quality. It can also enable predictive wheel alignment.
Said one body shop general manager, “The Wand is truly game changing technology. Before, we spent far too much time chasing hidden damage and filing for supplemental charges. Our estimators are now able to lock in the correct times up front.”
Matrix has been awarded two patents for the measurement system and method, and expects two more to be awarded soon. Matrix is now able to reap the rewards of the many benefits of patent ownership, such as reducing the number of competitors in the market and the ability to obtain revenue from licensing.
Guidelight CEO, George Stevens, commented “The patented innovations Guidelight has developed for Matrix pushes the Matrix Wand to the forefront of the burgeoning marketing of vision systems and augmented reality.”
