Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 22, 2012

Former Atlanta Falcons defensive back Ray Buchanan was arrested for drunk driving on his 41st birthday reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The NFL veteran, who played with the Falcons from 1997-2003, was clocked driving his SUV at 95 mph in a 65 zone, and the pro player's arrest and subsequent DUI charge did not result in any injuries according to a Gwinnett County police report. Attorneys with New York Accident Lawyers, a legal resource website, say most drunk driving incidents don't end so well – and victims often go unnoticed by the media.

Buchanan was pulled over around 3 a.m., after reportedly driving away from police for a quarter mile and then pulling onto the wrong side of the road. He admitted to having one drink, but a breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol content of .91%, well in excess of the Georgia limit of .8% according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“It's fortunate that this particular incident didn't result in anyone being hurt,” said Judy Adkins, a spokesperson for New York Accident Lawyers. “But the fact is, even if someone was injured, the only reason this made headlines is because [Buchanan] is a celebrity. Usually, these accidents and their victims go unreported in the media.”

Adkins says that many accident victims get little support and never realize what kind of compensation they're legally entitled to.

“Insurance companies will usually offer a small settlement,” Adkins said. “They aren't going to offer more than they have to, because they know most people won't take the time to talk to a lawyer.”

“Many victims see lawyers as expensive,” she added. “That's why we offer free consultations and make sure that people can easily locate a lawyer who's right for them.”

The website acts as a portal for those injured in accidents of any kind, so that they can connect with attorneys with experience appropriate to their case. The service is completely free and is meant to make legal advice more accessible.
