It's important to make sure seniors have a voice at election time.

Seniors play a critical role in deciding an election. Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group, a trusted Massachusetts family-owned senior services company, recently held a get-out-the-vote event for nursing center residents who wish to cast absentee ballots. Bay Path Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Duxbury, along with Duxbury Planning Board member Josh Cutler, who is also a 2012 candidate for state representative for the 6th Plymouth District, encouraged the nursing center’s 42 registered voters, to get their ballots in the mail. “You're never too young or too old to exercise your right to vote. Whether it's a local selectmen's race or the U.S. Presidency, we've seen how one vote can truly have an impact,” says Cutler. Cutler commended Bay Path and the Welch Group for encouraging everyone to participate in the electoral process. Josh Cutler (D) will face off against Karen Barry (R) of Duxbury in November’s general election.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2010, an estimated 40 million people were 65 and older. Nearly half of all Americans who vote are over the age of 50. “It’s important to make sure seniors have a voice at election time,” says Richard Welch, president of Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group. For millions of caregivers and their elderly parents over the age of 60, healthcare is an important issue in the upcoming election, less than a month away.
