Grass Valley, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2012
As Lt. Brad Snyder, Navy officer who was blinded by an IED in Afghanistan just over one year ago, competed in the 2012 London Paralympics, SargesList celebrated his achievements thousands of miles away.
Snyder won two gold metals and one silver metal in various Paralympic swimming events - including a gold in the 400-meter freestyle on the one year anniversary of the accident that took his vision.
SargesList, a trusted resource for military classifieds, job-seeking, and military community resources, celebrated Snyder's personal and public victories by hosting a Team Brad Fundraiser. This fundraiser was a 6 week campaign for t-shirt sales and donations which grossed $10,400. The SargesList fundraiser culminated in a local gathering at Chick's Oyster Bar (http://www.chicksoysterbar.com) in Virginia Beach, VA. Through local t-shirt, wrist band sales, silent auction and donation, the event raised approximately $1,500 for COMMIT Foundation, Brad’s chosen recipient of the monies raised. The event was attended by Snyder's friends, coworkers, former teammates and other Virginia Beach locals who have been following his great success on the news.
The Team Brad Fundraiser was made possible by Brad Snyder, The COMMIT Foundation, Ask 4 Screen Printing (http://www.ask4screenprinting.com/), The Tiny Soldier (http://www.thetinysoldier.com), Banner Mountain and R&B Communications (http://www.rb-com.com/). The event in Virginia Beach would not have occurred without the generosity of the owners of Chick's Oyster Bar, who donated the space and food. SargesList especially thanks silent auction donors Exchange USA (http://myexchangestore.com), Michael and Sons Services, XTremeCrabWear, Wounded Wear, Bullets2Bangages and artists Vernon Wooten, Michael Morgan, Vallerie Spivey, Kiyomi Photography, and E-N-E Photography, all of whom donated auction items worth at least $100 with one item from Exchange USA being worth $600! Overall, 23 local and national companies donated silent auction items.
The goal wasn’t to raise as much money as possible. The goal was to make sure that Brad’s message of hope and inspiration was spread. The funds were just icing on the cake. SargesList team was honored to be a part of his history and is grateful for the opportunity to help turn his accomplishments into positive results.
Launched in early 2011, SargesList is a Veteran-owned company that provides trusted classifieds and local base information for active duty military, Veterans, Reserves, National and Coast Guard to buy, sell, trade and connect at over 500 installations around the world. SargesList is a one stop portal for military communities to buy and sell household goods, vehicles, homes for sale, find employment, local services and area information. The site was built by the team that developed and maintains the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN.com). In working with the military for almost 10 years, the team discovered a need for a military classifieds site to connect military locally or globally. Unlike other classified sites, it provides military families with a more trusted interaction with an icon on listings and communications for users who register with their DOT MIL email. This helps users identify who is in their Department of Defense network.
Snyder's preferred recipient, the COMMIT Foundation. Net proceeds will be donated to the Commit Foundation to help two veterans, like Snyder, make a complete and meaningful transition out of uniformed service into the next phase of life.
