Mr. Tiftickjian emphases how to get relevant information and how to organize the information in a way that is practical. The fundamental purpose of his chapter is to assist DUI attorneys become better prepared for trial in driving under the influence cases.
"Lawyers are interested in selling themselves instead of getting their client’s story at the initial consultation,” says Tiftickjian. "It is more advantageous and will put your client more at ease if you show an interest and work the case from the start, instead of trying to give a sales pitch.
Tiftickjian counsels other DUI defense lawyers to do a thorough interview of the client, and have the client complete a methodical information request. In addition, he advises that law firms have a specific organization system for DUI cases that must be adhered to from the start of representation. "With what is at stake for our clients, we must turn over every stone to make sure that we find and explore every potential defense and mitigating fact,” says Tiftickjian.
