I look forward to using this film as a springboard for a discussion of sex, relationship and pornography addictions with viewers at the Reel Recovery Film Festival.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2012
On October 29, 2012, at 9 p.m., Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, founder of the Sexual Recovery Institute and Director of Intimacy and Sexual Disorders Services at both The Ranch in Tennessee and Promises Treatment Centers in California, will join Stephen Jay Schwartz, author of Boulevard and Beat, for a discussion about sex, relationship and pornography addictions. The panel discussion will follow a free screening of the movie Shame, presented by the Reel Recovery Film Festival, at the Laemmle Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica.
Released in 2011 by British director Steve McQueen, Shame is a powerful drama that takes place in New York City, where 30-something businessman Brandon (Michael Fassbender) must come to terms with a sexual addiction that drives him to constantly seduce women, compulsively masturbate at home and in the office, and search for sex on the Internet. Shame won the Firpresci Award at the 2011 Venice Film Festival.
“As a therapist, I give Shame two thumbs up,” said Mr. Weiss. “It sheds light on how attractive, intelligent, attachment disordered adults who, having grown up with immense trauma, can end up ruining their lives. I look forward to using this film as a springboard for a discussion of sex, relationship and pornography addictions with viewers at the Reel Recovery Film Festival, and hopefully giving a name to the struggles of those who may recognize themselves in these characters and helping them find their way into treatment.”
