Triplett-King offers technical expertise of the highest caliber in both traditional design-bid-build and design-build delivery methods for transportation projects.
Rock Hill, S.C. (PRWEB) October 18, 2012
KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices throughout the eastern and central United States, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Triplett-King & Associates Inc. (TKA), a South Carolina-based company specializing in structural engineering, construction engineering and inspection services for transportation projects.
With sales exceeding $6.5 million in 2011, TKA maintains a robust client base of state and local transportation agencies as well as a host of contractors. Their portfolio includes a variety of structure types, from small covered timber bridges to major interchanges. The organization has built a strong reputation for providing engineering design of fast-track, design-build and cost saving solutions for bridges across the Southeast, including projects in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.
“Triplett-King offers technical expertise of the highest caliber in both traditional design-bid-build and design-build delivery methods for transportation projects,” said KCI President Nathan J. Beil, PE. “Welcoming them into the KCI family serves as both a geographical expansion of a service line established in other regions, as well as entrance into a well-developed construction and design-build market in the Southeast. TKA is a well-run, profitable firm with solid technical and managerial leadership in Merritt King, and we’re excited to have their entire team come on board.”
TKA’s work has garnered both local and regional recognition, with the most recent accolades when the American Council of Engineering Companies – South Carolina honored the SC 150 design-build emergency bridge replacement with an Engineering Excellence Award earlier this year. Other recognized efforts include the design-build replacement of 12 bridges for the Virginia Department of Transportation, the U.S. 17 Washington Bypass in Beaufort, N.C., and the I-520 Palmetto Parkway design-build project in Aiken County, S.C.
"With strong corporate backing and a solid reputation throughout the northeast and central U.S., this acquisition will allow us to expand our service lines to our clients throughout the south, while providing tremendous growth and expansion opportunities for our staff,” said TKA President W. Merritt King, PE. “It’s also a great opportunity for KCI to move into South Carolina and have a strong presence in the transportation arena.”
King originally founded TKA in 1997 with James E. Triplett but reorganized the firm under his sole ownership in 2011. With KCI, he will lead the company's local transportation-based structural engineering efforts as vice president and regional practice leader. With more than 24 years of industry experience, King has been involved in more than 500 highway and bridge design projects, including 20 major design-build transportation contracts for state agencies. TKA’s 45 employees will continue to operate out of the firm’s offices in Rock Hill, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C.
With sales of $117 million in 2011, KCI Technologies Inc. is ranked 96 on the Engineering News-Record’s current list of the top 500 engineering firms in the country. Roughly 950 KCI employee owners support clients from more than 20 offices throughout the eastern and central U.S. KCI offers environmental, transportation, telecommunications, construction, facilities and land development services to government, institutional and private-sector clients.
