Attendees of October’s iMedia Breakthrough Summit, October 14-17 in Austin, TX, chose three early stage mobile companies as winners in the 2nd Annual Next Wave Start-Up Challenge and Showcase. Next Wave’s 2012 focus was on highlighting cutting-edge technology companies redefining the mobile marketing industry.

After a months-long process that started with hundreds of companies nominated through iMediaConnection.com, 27 companies were selected by an industry Advisory Board to be reviewed and voted for online by the iMedia community, which chose 11 presenting finalists who made their way to Austin for the on-stage presentations and audience polling.
During the summit each finalist presented their company’s value proposition on stage, followed by questions from an on-stage judging panel. Then the summit audience of about 300 people texted in their votes for the winners in each category, and the winners were announced during an awards dinner Tuesday, October, 16.
Next Wave Advisory Board members include: Matt Doherty, mobile director, FRWD; Dave Knox, chief marketing officer, Rockfish and co-founder, The Brandery; Scott Kveton, chief executive officer, Urban Airship; Tricia Nichols, global lead of consumer engagement, media innovation & partnerships for The GAP; and Gordon Paddison, chief executive officer, Stradella Road.
