“I started this event after I was inspired by one of my clients who is breast cancer "surthriver,” said C.J. Easter , Owner of the Performance Science Training Institute. “My client, Jenn, said her doctor attributed her ability to return to our boot camp, just six weeks after a double mastectomy, because of her fighting spirit and commitment to fitness. I’m so taken back by her positive attitude that I want the Palo Alto community to come together for this event. It promises to be a good time and the money is going to the right place!”
Members of the media and the public are encouraged to take part in the event. The event will start at 9 a.m. at Gunn High School located at 780 Arastradero Road in Palo Alto, California. The event starts with a two mile run with various check points along the track. “The idea is to have participants stop and do burpee exercises at these check points. At the end of the race each participant will have completed 100 burpees and the race’s winner will get $100 dollars,” continued Easter.
According to BreastCancer.org, “About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime” and “About 39,520 women in the U.S. were expected to die in 2011 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1990 — especially in women under 50.” The Performance Science Training Institute is hoping to raise $2,000 dollars (or more) on October 27th via the Burpees for Boobies event.
