Alpha Systems’ donation to CHOP’s Reach Out and Read program enables us to place books directly in the hands of many of our patients, encouraging them to develop and maintain excellent reading habits.
Huntingdon Valley, PA (PRWEB) October 19, 2012
Alpha Systems, a premier provider of electronic patient chart management solutions, promoted a campaign at the 84th Annual American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) convention and exhibit in Chicago, IL that benefited The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The campaign encouraged AHIMA attendees to decorate bookmarks for the kids at CHOP before the show or at Alpha Systems’ booth and also to donate children’s books. In addition to promoting at AHIMA, Alpha Systems employees could participate as well. The campaign was extremely successful as Alpha Systems was able to collect over 200 books and bookmarks to CHOP, which were delivered to the children on Monday.
“It is very rewarding to see the health information management community and our employees unite around a great cause to support children treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Having our friends at AHIMA join us in support of the Reach Out and Read program, we were able to make a difference,” said Brett Griffith, President of Alpha Systems. “We are going to continue to support the children’s literacy program with an ongoing book collection for Read Out and Read at CHOP.”
Reach Out and Read is a national program that prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. During well visits, doctors and nurse practitioners teach parents the importance of reading aloud to their young children every day, offering age-appropriate tips and encouragement. The Reach Out and Read program needs 75,000+ books a year to enable each child gets 2 books per year. Currently, CHOP gets about 45,000.
Robin Valentino, Director, Retail Cause Marketing and Children’s Miracle Network at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia said, “Alpha Systems’ donation to CHOP’s Reach Out and Read program enables us to place books directly in the hands of many of our patients, encouraging them to develop and maintain excellent reading habits. “
There are several ways to get involved including hosting a fundraiser or book drive, contributing to CHOP’s Reach Out and Read endowment or becoming a volunteer. For more information about the Reach Out and Read program, visit http://www.chop.edu/reachoutandread.
