Gartner estimates that worldwide SPM market revenue will “reach $1.5 billion to $2 billion during 2012 and 2013.”

Penned by analyst, Patrick Stakenas, the report looks at vendors that provide key SPM features, including sales incentive compensation (ICM), objective/quota, territory, training, and appraisal management, as well as hiring/onboarding and sales coaching systems. The report adds that “Sales ICM still compromises the majority of SPM projects in terms of desired initial capabilities and target revenue.”
Emerging trends highlighted in the report included the proliferation of mobile devices amongst salespeople and the addition of sales force management automation features that allow companies to set sales and activity goals and monitor them regularly. The report also notes that while originally designed for larger sales teams, “the SaaS model has enabled SPM offerings to be affordable to companies of all sizes.”
